Point of contact (punto di contatto)
The point of contact (punto di contatto) is the individual the NIS2 entity designates to handle the implementation of the decree: they access the ACN portal, carry out the annual registration and deal with ACN (Agenzia per la Cybersicurezza Nazionale, Italy's National Cybersecurity Agency) on behalf of the organisation.
Who can be one
Under Article 4 of ACN Determination 127437/2026: the legal representative, a general attorney registered in the companies register, or an employee delegated by the legal representative. In groups, it can be an employee of another group company that is also within the NIS scope. They can get help from external staff, but the role remains theirs. They report directly to senior management and to the management bodies, which remain responsible in any case.
The other roles
- Deputy point of contact: a different person, designated by 31 May of the year of inclusion in the list. Not needed if the point of contact is the only person in the organisation.
- CSIRT liaison (and deputies): designated by the point of contact by 31 December of the year of inclusion; deals with CSIRT Italia (Italy's national CSIRT) and sends the incident notifications.
- Secretariat and operators: optional support on the platform.
In practice
The point of contact is the first person to see every deadline: registration from 1 January to 28 February, annual update from 15 April to 31 May, categorisation from 1 May to 30 June, changes to the data within 14 days. If the point of contact changes, the management bodies must designate the new one without delay. The basic measures require the point of contact, the deputy and the CSIRT liaison to be part of the cybersecurity organisation (measure GV.RR-02).
